The article analyzes the systemic issues of professional tourism education in Russia, in particular, the gap between theoretical training and the practical requirements of the tourism industry. The low employment rate of graduates in their field and the growing shortage of personnel from the employers are discussed. The role of international educational programs in the training of qualified personnel is substantiated as one solution to this problem. Based on an analysis of Russian and Swiss experience, effective forms of international cooperation (double degrees, internships, network programs) are identified and ways to adapt and scale them up in the domestic context are proposed to improve the competitiveness of graduates and the quality of human resources in the tourism industry.
